Outbreak declared for second unit at Mont St. Joseph Home in Prince Albert.
Visitor restrictions are in place for the Spruce Meadows unit at Mont St. Joseph Home after a respiratory outbreak was declared on Monday, April 16, 2018 by Dr. Khami Chokani, Medical Health Officer.

Visitor restrictions are in place for the Spruce Meadows unit at Mont St. Joseph Home after a respiratory outbreak was declared on Monday, April 16, 2018 by Dr. Khami Chokani, Medical Health Officer.

Details of two current outbreaks are:

  • Mont St. Joseph Home (Spruce Meadows Unit), Prince Albert – Five residents and two staff members have developed acute respiratory symptoms in past week. Laboratory tests have confirmed Human Metapneumovirus. Mont St. Joseph Home is a 120-bed long-term care facility in Prince Albert. The outbreak does not affect access to the other units in the facility. Outbreak was declared on April 16, 2018.
  • Mont St. Joseph Home (Telemiracle Trail Unit), Prince Albert – Six residents and eight staff members have developed acute respiratory symptoms since early April. Laboratory tests have confirmed Respiratory Syncytial Virus subtype A. Mont St. Joseph Home is a 120-bed long-term care facility in Prince Albert. The outbreak does not affect access to the other units in the facility. Outbreak was declared on April 6, 2018.

Isolation precautions and visitor limitations are in place. There will be no new admissions or discharges to that unit for the duration of the outbreak, unless discussed with Infection Control or the Medical Health Officer.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority reminds the public that proper hand hygiene reduces the risk of getting or spreading illnesses. Visitors to any health care facility are asked to perform hand hygiene upon entering and leaving the facility. Anyone who is ill is also asked to not visit any health care facility, whether it is on outbreak status or not.
